How to change the icon for Sublime Text 3

Nearly everyone loves the text editor Sublime Text, but the default icon looks pretty blah sitting in your dock. Especially after Apple released OS X Yosemite and changed the whole operating system to a more modern and flat design.

An Easy Way to Change the App Icon

I use to attempt to update the icon by going into the app’s files and simply overwriting the icon, but since Sublime Text 3 that really didn’t work for me anymore. In fact it got me stuck with an icon I really didn’t like. Well, I finally found a quick and easy way to update this so I could get rid of this ugly icon that had been staring at me for awhile.

The Steps

• Find and download the icon that you want. I typically search Dribbble for “sublime text” and find a bunch of good looking replacements. Make sure that whatever you chose is in the right file format of .icns.
• Open Finder and go to your Applications folder.
• Right click on Sublime Text.app and click Get Info.
• Drag your new icon onto the Get Info window and directly over the icon in the very upper left.
• Restart/Open Sublime Text.

Pretty simple right? Now the hard part, at least for me, is always finding that icon that is just right. If you like the icon I am using in the video you can click here for a direct link to the Dribbble shot.
